Dick Heller, The Heller Foundation: Headlines as Keynote Speaker at Second Amendment Caucus Private Meeting in Congress in Washington, D.C.

(July 22, 2021)  The Heller Foundation’s Founder and Executive Director, Hon. Mr. Richard ‘Dick’ Heller, headlines as keynote speaker at The Second Amendment Caucus meeting in Congress on Capital Hill in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

In a press release published earlier today, Second Amendment Caucus Chairman, Congressman Thomas Massie (R, KY) , stated, “It was a privilege for me and my Second Amendment Caucus Co-Chair, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, to host Dick Heller at last night’s meeting. Mr. Heller is the living legend responsible for the lawsuit that resulted in the Supreme Court’s landmark District of Columbia v. Heller ruling.”

Dick Heller is more commonly referred to as the ‘Godfather of the Second Amendment’ - as he was the lead plaintiff in the District of Columbia v. Heller 2008 United States Supreme Court landmark decision where, for the first time in history, the highest court in the land ruled on the Second Amendment. Justice Scalia’s binding precedent, affirming in Heller's majority opinion that an individual’s right to keep and bear arms is protected by the Second Amendment in the United States Constitution, is well-revered as the most important United States Supreme Court majority (held, 5-4) opinion in hisotry.

Accordingly, Hon. Mr. Dick Heller, The Heller Foundation's Founder and Executive Director, highlights: "I am grateful for the opportunity to present upcoming cases and enjoy the fellowship of my colleagues while serving in the Second Amendment Caucus on Capitol Hill this evening."

Moreover, the current Congressional Second Amendment Caucus Co-Chair, Freshman Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO), added in a separate press release issued earlier Wednesday evening that she was “Honored to host Dick Heller, the hero who won the famous case DC v. Heller.” Congresswoman Boebert also stated [that]: “Dick wasn’t just fighting for his right to bear arms, but for the Constitutional right of all Americans to protect themselves. I’m proud to continue that effort in Congress.”

In addition to the sitting Members of United States Congress in attendance on Wednesday’s exclusive meeting, Hon. Mr. Mark Meadows- President Donald J. Trump’s former Chief of Staff- also took advantage of Heller’s historic speech.

Finally, Congressman Massie adds, “Mr. Heller delivered an interesting presentation in which he outlined the historic legal principles that recognize every individual’s right to self-defense. He also discussed Justice Scalia’s “magnificent”5-4 majority opinion in the suit that bear’s Heller’s name.. in 2008, it struck down a gun control law that had been in place in Washington, D.C. since 1976.”
